Your work stays yours

You keep the copyright in everything you publish here. You give BiteBooks a non-exclusive licence to store your work, show it to readers, include it in feeds and search results, and show an extract in a link preview. That licence exists so the site can display your story. It is not a sale, it is not exclusive, and it ends for new displays when you remove the work.

You can export everything you have written at any time, as plain Markdown files. You do not need our permission and you do not need to be leaving.

What we ask of you

• Publish only work you wrote or have the right to publish.
• Follow the community rules. They are part of these terms.
• Be at least 13, and at least 16 to see Mature content.
• Do not attack the service, scrape it at volume, or automate accounts.

Objectionable content

There is zero tolerance for objectionable content and for abusive behaviour. Content that breaks the community rules is removed, and accounts that repeat it are closed. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours. You can report anything from the story itself, and you can block any writer.

Fan fiction

Transformative fan work is welcome. It is still subject to copyright law, and we answer valid takedown notices under the process on the copyright page. Repeat infringement ends an account.

Accounts

You can read without an account. Publishing needs one. You can delete your account at/delete-account or from Settings in the app; this unpublishes your Bites immediately and removes your data on the schedule set out in theprivacy notice.

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Where it is not an emergency and not a legal requirement, we will say why.

No promises about uptime

The service is provided as it is. We do not promise it will always be available or that nothing will ever be lost, which is exactly why the export exists and why you should keep your own copy of anything you care about.

Changes

If these terms change in a way that affects you, you will be asked to accept the new version before your next publish, and the date at the top of this page will change.
